Preparing for the 2021 Season

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the remainder of the 2020 season was unfortunately cancelled. However, the same set of rules will be replayed for the 2021 season, meaning there will not have to be drastic changes to event preparations. Science Olympiad has also released statements regarding plans for the next season. While in-person tournaments are the ideal option, they may not be possible due to the effects of the coronavirus. As such, four plans were drafted: Satellite SO, Mini SO, MY SO, and 3Cs

Satellite SO is a close emulation of an in-person tournament, only teams remain at their own schools and will allow teams to be eligible for State and National bids as usual. Some changes will be made for build events.

Mini SO is a system to have competitors compete from their own homes. While similar in objective to Satellite SO, it will require a separate system to apply for State and National bids.

MY SO is a season-long program of various activities and themed programs covering all subjects within Science Olympiad. At the end of each month, there will be a "STEM Showdown" such that there remains an incentive to learn. Teams engaged in MY SO will have a separate system to apply for State and National bids.

3Cs is an outreach program of sorts to keep competitors engaged. It simply asks competitors to remain a part of their Science Olympiad communities, as well as to be active in their broader community and help out.
